What are the worship services like?

We believe that God speaks to people differently, in words and ways that have meaning for their lives. We also believe people praise God differently, in songs and prayers that speak to God from where they are in their individual faith journeys. Recognizing our differences, and celebrating them as a community, has led us to offer three different worship services; Saturday at 5:00 p.m., Sunday at 8:00 and 10:30 a.m.
Each of our services  follows the basic pattern of Lutheran worship: we gather as God’s people, we hear God’s word, we share in the Lord’s meal, and we are sent into the world to share the good news of Jesus Christ. Both of the worship services follow the “seasons” of the church year, because in the ancient cycle of Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost, we see the saving action of the Lord in every season of our lives.

What about my children?

Childcare: At the Sunday morning services(8:00AM & 10:30AM), Gloria Dei provides childcare in our nursery (located near the coffee station behind our sanctuary).
Children’s Worship: During the school year, at the 10:30 am service, Children’s Worship is available. Children attend adult worship with their families until the end of the children's sermon. They then leave for their own worship time, which includes games and/or crafts, return for a communion blessing, and then rejoin their families for the remainder of the adult worship service. Pre-schoolers must be picked up from their classroom.
Welcome Center: At every service parents are welcome to sit, view, and hear the service from our Welcome Center while your children have the space to move around.

What does your church believe?

Lutherans are a diverse group of people, convinced that the Holy Spirit is leading us toward unity in the household of God.

  • We believe in the Triune God.
  • We are part of God’s unfolding plan.
  • When we gather for worship, we connect with believers everywhere and of every time.
  • When we study the Bible and pray, we are drawn more deeply into God’s own saving story.
  • When we serve others and address social issues that affect the common good, we live out our Christian faith.

What's the vision of Gloria Dei?

The vision of Gloria Dei is grounded in the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.

The Great Commandment:
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22: 37-39
The Great Commission:
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Matthew 28:19

In order to do this, God has called us  to be an accessible, engaged and faithful church .  We  believe it is critical in this confusing and chaotic time that people can come together in fellowship, create authentic relationships and find strength in our numbers.

Will I have to say anything, sign anything, give anything, or be singled out in any way?

If you are visiting, we do not ask you to give a dime when we pass the offering plate. We will not make you wear a visitor badge or stand up so that everyone can see you. We would like you to fill out a care and communication card so that we can assist you in your visit.

How do I get to the church?

Gloria Dei is easily accessible just off of I-29, east on 72nd street. Click for map. We're located just minutes south of the Zona Rosa shopping center. Parking is available at the front and rear of the church. For visitors, there are designated parking spots marked as "Visitor" at the front of the church.

What should I wear?

Some people come dressed in jeans and t-shirts while others come dressed business casual. If you prefer to wear ties or a dress, that's fine too. We are more concerned with you personally, and your needs, than with what you wear. Dress up or dress comfortably, and either way, you will fit in.

What do you offer for junior high and senior high school students?

We are committed to providing our youth with a strong spiritual foundation to help them grow into active Christian adults. The groups for these ages are Junior Dei Lights (6th – 8th grade) and the Senior Dei Lights (9th – 12th grade).
Our Youth Ministry offers the youth a place to:

  • Learn about God and Jesus
  • Learn about the Bible and apply its lessons to today's world
  • Discuss, in a safe and open environment, tough issues like sex, drugs, and alcohol and also discuss ways to cope with the temptations
  • Gain an understanding of what it means to be a servant of Christ by learning the joy of serving in their home, their church and their community
  • Build friendships as they meet new people
  • Experience the unconditional love of God
  • Learn how God is present with and around us everyday

How do I get connected?

Coming to a church, for some people, is a bit overwhelming. There are so many people, so many options, and so many ministries and small groups to be a part of. How in the world is anyone supposed to make sense of it all? At Gloria Dei, we have a small group that is designed for people who are new to our church to help bring some order to this overwhelming adventure. Every quarter, we have a small group setting that is specifically designed for people who are new to our church. We talk about our history as a church, what we believe, and how we do church. By coming to this small group, you are able to meet some of the key leaders and pastors of our church, and you have the opportunity to meet some of the other new people as well.
