Our Music

Our Music

Gloria Dei is blessed to have accomplished musicians on staff to enrich our worship with a wide range of music. We are in between music directors at this time.  Dr. Calvin Permenter and Dr. Tracey Johnson serve as our principal accompanists. These two work together with various others at Gloria Dei to add musical depth and inspiration to our worship. During the academic year, there are other ensembles that help lead our worship:

The Gloria Dei Chancel Choir is our main musical group. They rehearse on Wednesday evenings, and are open to singers of any level.

The Sunday School Children sing monthly at the 10:30am Sunday worship ser-vice, led by Peggy Reil and the Sunday School teachers.

In addition to these vocal groups, Gloria Dei has a multi-generational handbell choir. The Charis Handbells are always looking for ringers.  If you can read music, we can teach you how to ring bells.  Rehearsals are Sunday mornings after the 8:00 am service.  You are welcome to join us!

Other individuals also provide music for worship, especially in the summer months when these ensembles take a break. We have been enriched by flautists, violinists, violists, cellists, drummers, guitarists, pianists, and vocalists, just to name a few.

Beyond providing special music throughout the year, the regular musical groups have two special weekends each year where they are the primary preachers in worship — the Christmas Cantata weekend in mid-December and Music Weekend in mid-May — and the Sunday School kids lead a grand celebration of Christmas with their Christmas program.
